Did you know that you could measure heart rate variability on your Apple Watch? It’s one of the most significant features of watchOS, which allows you to track HRV and also let you know important information regarding your body’s autonomic nervous system. The biggest advantage of this feature is that it can help you take control of stress.

In order to test iPhone apps, you need to install Xcode, the development program used to code and design iOS apps. Even if you only want to run existing app code rather than design your own app, you need Xcode to run the iOS Simulator. Search for 'Xcode' in the Mac App Store and download it to begin. Launch the Mac AppStore and download/install Xcode. Ios-deploy is a small utility to install and debug iPhone apps from the command line, without using Xcode. We need a test app. With Xcode 7 you are no longer required to have a developer account in order to test your apps on your device: Check it out here. Please notice that this is the officially supported by Apple, so there's no need of jailbroken devices or testing on the simulator, but you'll have to use Xcode 7 (currently in beta by the time of this post) or later. IWifi is your ultimate network diagnostic tool, you can quickly test your internet speed, detect networked devices and view all kinds of network information, and there is also an analysis tool to visualize the nearby Wi-Fi signal.
To begin, you need to first kick-start a Breathe session on your smartwatch. And once you have recorded the measurement of your body, you can check the data via the Health app on your iPhone. Let me show you how it works:
How to Monitor Heart Rate Variability (HRV) on Apple Watch
Step #1. First off, you need to stay still while taking measurements (just sit down about a minute). Launch Breathe app on your Apple Watch.
Step #2. Now, tap on Start.
Step #3. Next, follow the Breathe session as usual. Up next, you need to inhale as the animation grows and your device will tap your wrist. Exhale when the animation shrinks and the taps stop. Make sure to breathe until the session is completed and the watch taps you twice and chimes.
Note: When you are using the Breathe app, the watchOS will mute some notifications to help you concentrate. Your session will end automatically if you move or answer a call. In this case, you will not get any credit for it.

After the Breathe session is completed, you will be able to view your HRV score on your iPhone.

That’s done!
Wrapping up
It’s a very helpful feature. I use it on my watch to deal with anxiety in a better way. I wish there were a way to check the HRV data right from the smartwatch. Hopefully, Apple makes it possible sooner than later. What’s your take on this special watchOS feature? Do share your valuable feedback down below in the comments.
